Lottery sends windfall to cities, towns
Business couldn't be better for the Massachusetts State Lottery, which sold a record $5.29 billion in tickets last fiscal year. That also bodes well for cities and towns that rely on lottery profits to fix potholes, balance budgets and hire new police officers and firefighters. The Lottery raked in $997 million in profits during the 2018 fiscal year — the second-highest in its 47-year history, state officials said.
